Library Loot (4 Feb 2009)

I went to the library for the sole purpose of returning the DVD I borrowed last week - I swear! But of course I had to head towards the new books shelves and linger for a little too long, ending up with:

Esther's Inheritance by Sandor Marai (The Guardian's review here)
The Secret Scripture by Sebastien Barry (the author talks to The Guardian about his Costa win)

I loved The Secret Scripture, I hope you will too. I have read Embers by Sandor Marai but not this one. I'll be interested to see what you think of them both.

They both sound too tempting to pass up! :) Next week, I'll be getting an obscene number of books, so don't be worried about two! ;)

Samantha and Eva - Libraries are indeed full of temptations! I had picked up a couple more books after those two but set them back down, as I've already had another 5 checked out... but you know what, it'll be another new week coming up soon... another trip to the library to follow!

Sandra - I was suprised at how much I loved Sebastian Barry's A Long Long Way and can't wait to see how his new one goes. I've not read anything by Sandor Marai, but was intrigued after reading in The Guardian review of Esther's Inheritance that it has been translated directly from the Hungarian by poet George Szirtes, unlike Embers which was translated from the German translation.
